Skillful Singing

For most adults, recalling the alphabet goes hand-in-hand with singing the tune, as do many of the concepts we learned in school. For musical kids, this effect is even more pronounced. Chat with your child about some of the language concepts s/he found challenging during the past school year and look up some of the concepts that s/he will be expected to learn in the Fall quarter. Then, have your child come up with tunes to remember the rules or concepts. (e.g. “what's a pronoun?”, “I before E except after C”, “a silent E turns other vowels long”, etc.)
